The cover for “Rose In A Storm” just went up on Amazon, so it’s okay to put it up here and share it with you. It’s a composite, based partly on my photos and on an artist’s composite design. It surely captures the spirit of the real Rose and of the book.
I am happy to be returning to fiction after a decade away. I wrote a novel and six mysteries before turning to non-fiction, then to writing about dogs, animals and rural life. This was the most difficult book I ever wrote – told from the perspective of a loving, brave, workaholic border collie trapped on a farm during an epic blizzard. I talked to many behaviorists in researching this book and tried, insofar as possible, to be faithful to recreating the mind of a dog. The real Rose and I have been through many blizzards together on Bedlam Farm, so it is definitely something I am comfortable writing about.
I loved writing this book and am already working on a sequel. Glad to share the cover. The book can already be pre-ordered on Amazon and BN.com. and in local bookstores. Rose’s blood is in the soil of this farm, and so is mine. She is a great dog, different from the Rose in the novel, yet in many ways, the same.
