Rescue. Lost and found

Rose rescues Bartleby and mother
Rose rescues Bartleby and mother

Before Bartleby got his tail docked and his testicles banded, he and his mother got separated from the herd this morning. The sheep are in the back pasture, much of it overgrown with tall grass and bushes (we are clearing it). When the sheep came down, I couldn’t find the lamb or his mother. Several hours later, they was no trace of them. So I got concerned. Sent Rose up out of sight over the top of the hill and she disappeared for awhile. I couldn’t hear or see anything. Then I heard some rustling and the three of them came down. It was slow going, I could see, because the mom kept slowing for Bartleby, and Rose had to stop and wait for them.

There are lots of deep woods up the hill and coyotes and foxes at night, a long trek there for a ewe and a lamb. Easy to get cut off or picked off. Going to keep these two in a paddock for awhile but I don’t know if they would have found their way back without Rose. She always gets it done. New sheep arrived today and they are in the meadow across from the farmhouse. The farm is coming back to life, and I have mixed feelings about it, though I like the farm being a working farm again.

Long Day for Bartleby. The farm is reborn

by Jon Katz
Rough day for a lamb
Rough day for a lamb

Bedlam Farm is very much a farm again. Darryl Kuehne brought seven more sheep over to the outer pasture, and he’s bringing one more load in a week or so. All of my pastures are not in use again, as is the barn and the water systems. We have to decide this summer whether or not to keep Lulu and Fanny here for good. As for Bartleby, he had his tail docked today and his testicles banded so he will be neutered.

I thought the farming days were over but they are not. There were are, checking water and fences, brushhogging pastures, spraying disinefectant on wounds. The farm is reborn.

Eyeglass cases for men, women, kids
Eyeglass cases for men, women, kids

Maria has struck again in her Studio Barn, surprising me with custom made eyeglass cases for an entire family – mother, father and daughter. The eyeglass cases will be part of our Creative Union Art Show at l p.m. July 24, Redux Art and Antiques, Dorset, Vt. We will be celebrating love, marriage,  potholders, photography, notecards, eyeglass cases, nothing in the show more than $15. 1 to 4 p.m. You can see Maria’s work on her spanking new website. My notecards are already up for sale on the Redux site, and more are coming.

I love these eyeglass cases, and will order one if I can. Yesterday Maria showed me a bunch of her new E-Book Bags (see below) for Kindle’s, Ipads, Nook’s, and othe e-book readers. The Studio Barn is a magical and creative place for her.
