Maria and the donkeys. Welcome home.

Lulu is happy that Maria is home. You could see it.

Animals never fail to surprise and humble me. I often hide behind the camera, I know. Up in the pasture with Rose, I looked down to see Maria and the donkeys, talking to one another. I told Maria that if we decide to keep the donkeys, they will know it, and will respond. I saw this connection, almost visible between them, and was fortunate to have a camera.

There is great love passing between Maria and the donkeys. They are her donkeys, I think.

Writing a short story about cats tomorrow. Also, please come celebrate affordable art, love and marriage from one to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at the Redux Gallery in Dorset, Vt. We will be showing and selling potholders, cell phone cases, eyeglass cases, photographs in singles and five-packs. Nothing more than $15. We are seeking to present our art to the world in affordable ways. We are excited about it. Everybody can afford something. Bedlam Farm notecards are for sale on the Redux site. We are adding donkey photos, Bartleby the lamb,  and Rose at work.

See the light. Living your life.

by Jon Katz
The past is the past
The past is the past

The past is the past and the present is your life. So live it. Our wedding – our lives – are about choosing life, each day, every time you can. There is no perfect life, but there is a good life, I think – examined, determined, and in search of love, fulfillment and connection. Not always possible, never easy. There are lots of people lined up to give good reasons why a fulfilled life is not feasible or possible. And there are those will will encourage you. Sometimes, when the light is good and I have the right lens, and I am paying attention, the lights and images of the world shout out to me, and I think I am going mad. I am mad, I am sure.

But more and more, I talk back to them. Here I am. Here I am. I’m coming to you.

Retuning to life

by Jon Katz
Honeymoon's over
Honeymoon's over

Honeymoon is over. We had a beautiful wedding – 75 or so people in the big barn, dogs in attendance, great and loving friends. We did it our way, and it was nice. We exchanged vows, heard messages from the people who knew us, had a brief reception and took off for a short honeymoon. Sad to be back, although had a happy reunion on the path with the dogs.

The marriage and ceremony was a great affirmation of life and I am much blessed. My daughter Emma was best man and we both choked up on our vows. Felt like coming to shore. Got a lot of mail, e-mail, farm chores, etc. More later.
