Book tour: Bookstores and singing dogs

by Jon Katz
Great crowd at B&N in Framingham, Mass.

October 28, 2010 – We had a full house at Barnes & Noble in Framingham, Mass., lots of questions about writing, photography, fiction and life. I loved the mix and the questions, and I got several offers to appear at libraries for my post-Tour Library Tour in support of libraries and writing and reading and my books.

Back to the farm tomorrow. Next and last event on the tour (until the library tour) is the Concord Breakfast Authors Festival, Saturday, November 6, 8 a.m., at the Concord Inn. Tickets required.

Anyone interested in exploring the notion of  women and dogs communicating with one another should check out the Facebook topic posted on my FB page this morning on whether people sing to their cats and dogs, and if so, what. The range and depthy of the songs, lyrics and feelings is noting short of astonishing. All of the posts – nearly 100 as of this writing – are from women and the musical connection between these women and their dogs is astonishing. The range goes from gospel to folk to country to rock, Dylan, Mozard, the Sonics, the Dead, Dolly Parton to songs about love, loss and Jesus. Wow.

Music is, I see, one of the major ways women are communicating with animals, From the posts, it appears that the animals are talking and even dancing back. Definitely going to write more about that.
