Communicating. Whispering. What Are We Saying?

by Jon Katz
What are we saying?

I point the big camera, and I take the shot, and I close my eyes, and I listen. What are they saying? What can we hear? And I drift into what I can only call a mystical space, a place between now and then, into the mystery, the alien consciousness, the exquisite sensitivity, the instincts so far beyond our imagination.

I sometimes hear ancient whispers, feel stirrings I cannot explain. What are they saying to one another? I think they are speaking in feelings, not in words. We know, they say to me, we know.

Rose And Ewe 0033, A Sick Ewe. Video News

by Jon Katz
Rose And The Sick Ewe

Saw a ewe limping and took Rose out to separate her and take a look. Ewe Number 0033 is sick and is leaving the farm tomorrow. We think all of the moisture in the pasture is causing some leg and hoof issues. Took a video to show the value of a dog like Rose on the farm, who helped us isolated Number 0033. Sheep are leaving tomorrow:

Notes: Connie Brooks of Battenkill Books is trying to figure out the logistics of offering the “Going Home” video to people who pre-order my book “Going Home: Finding Peace When Pets Die.” I think it’s a good idea. She is trying to see how much this would cost and whether it’s feasible to offer it now, as she is swamped with pre-orders for the book. That is a good thing. She has alerted the Cambridge Post Office to be prepared to handle 300 or more packages at the end of the month. That’s a new record for them.

We’ve finished building the access ramp for The Bedlam Farm Pig Barn Art Gallery Show over Columbus Day Weekend, October 8-9, ll to 4. Maria has gathered nine gifted artists offering functional art that ranges from quilts and pillows to memory boxes and paintings to pottery and jewelry and felting. People who wish can also buy my new book at Gardenworks or Battenkill Books and bring it to the farm, where I will sign and personalize it. Simon and Lenore will be official greeters and Rose might be on hand to annoy some sheep if they are still here. We are excited to see the Pig Barn Art Gallery in full swing, at the height of foliage season. Come on up, nearby Vermont and Washington County would appreciate some visitors right now. The roads are open and good. Details on Maria’s website
