Flo was unimpressed by the vintage hankies flapping right in front of her chair. She leaned down, closed her eyes and ignored the process. A few months ago, Flo was too shy to come out from under the porch. Now she is the farm supervisor. Hanky album going up on Facebook.

Here Come The Vintage Hankies
The vintage hankies that make up the new scarves Maria is making have begun arriving at the farm, and Maria has begun processing them. Some people are sending her hankies, she is tracking others down at thrift shops and online. This very lovely batch from Lesleigh in Wisconsin, and Maria is hand-washing and drying each one of them. Flo didn’t budge from her chair as vintage hankies flapped all around her. Maria has a lot of orders for her scarves, they are coming from all over the country, and it is also great fun to see these distinctive and evocative hanky’s morph into classy and colorful scares. (you can check it out on her website.) Maria was feeling a bit overwhelmed at the response, but she is very happy to see all of this wonderful fabric pouring in.
I loved to see these beautiful things flapping in the wind. I’ll put a photo album up on Facebook in a bit.
Mud Dog: Life Of A Lab
Spring is a good thing in the life of a Lab. Labs are all about love, food and finding disgusting things to eat, roll in and get mucky about. The more revolting the food, the better, the muddier, wetter and stinkier, joy, joy, joy. We went on a new path in the woods today, a beautiful path which we love, and Lenore romped around a bit and found her mud pond. First hosing down of the season, and we just vacuumed the house today. This is the life of a Lab. At one reason, somebody complained that their Lab was digging holes in the garden, what should they do? If you don’t want holes in your lawn I said, do not get a Lab. Labs love life. When they were first bred in Newfoundland (not Labrador), they hauled fish from the fishermen’s boats. Fishermen did not believe in dog food or feeding their Labs, so the dogs became inventive about eating dead fish, garbage and other offal.
They have a wondrous taste for garbage and muck today. Let dogs be dogs.

To Live In This World
“To live in this world, you must be able to do three things:
to love what is mortal.
to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it.
and when the time comes, to let it go.
To let it go.”
– Mary Oliver
