Poem: The Sad And Angry People

by Jon Katz
The Sad And Angry People
The Sad And Angry People

What do sad and angry people share?

They all pray to the past.

They go there every day to worship,

and chant their hymns and wails

What do the sad and angry people have in common?

Their hearts do not get to dance,

or sing.

Blame keeps the sad dance going,

and steals all of their hope and wealth.

When I woke up this morning,

I knew that this would be the best day of my life,

I would dance with precious  life today,

and build enough love,

to break the chains

that gripped my heart,

from the shackles and shrines,

that nearly stole her breath away.

Flo Reclaims Her Porch

by Jon Katz
Flo and her porch
Flo and her porch

Before we ever saw Flo, she lived under the front porch. In recent months, she’s rediscovered the porch and sleeps and sits on the rattan chairs usually kept there. When we discovered the rot in the porch and Jay Bridge took it apart, Flo was displaced and went off to some secret hiding place, now as Jay gets close to finishing the porch, Flo has returned to reclaim it. Tomorrow the chairs and sofa return. In the winter, both Flo and Minnie come inside at night, in the summer both of them stay outdoors. Minnie has adapted well to having three legs, I am happy that she has returned to her life as an outdoor barn cat, at least for the summer.

A Private Space

by Jon Katz
A Private Space
A Private Space

Our private garden is coming together, and beautifully. Maria bought me a “Rose Of Sharon” hibiscus tree for my birthday coming up this week and it will grow up to eight feet tall. On the right, the Dahlia garden is shooting up, and in front of our chairs there is a small rose bush and a prospering Hydrangea bush. It is a beautiful private space sprouting up, Maria has done a lot of digging and weeding, I am beginning to be able to help a bit, but not as much as I would like.

The Dahlia garden is gorgeous and we are thinking of planting a Hibiscus garden along the side of the farmhouse. When the “Rose Of Sharon’ sprouts up, it will create a private space for us to sit and talk, meditate or read. I go out there every day and sit and think and heal with Red, it is a beautiful place already. We often eat our meals there.
