Gratitude: Striking In A Storm. The Americans

Striking In A Storm

We drove to Brattleboro, Vt. this morning to buy clothes at Sam’s giant clothing store – I buy all my clothes there – and get back to our inn before the storm hit, we got to Sam’s but did not beat the storm. On the way out, I saw these striking workers at Fairpoint Communications and we pulled over and I got out and took a photo of them and their picket line bulldog.

These days, any striker against a corporation is my brother or sister and I saluted them and they cheered for me and were happy to let me take their photo. They had been standing in the snow and cold for awhile, much more to come, but they aren’t going anywhere. It seems a very American kind of photo to me. Our drive back to our inn was something of a white-knuckle thing – a huge tree fell on a giant truck right in front of us, nobody was hurt, but I thought we might be spending the night out on that road.

Heading out to look for food and take some photos, the storm is truly cranking up now, we are safe in our beautiful room, , not leaving for a day or so. More later. Might walk to the cemetery.
