When Plans Change, Life Continues

When Plans Change

We were in middle of absolutely nowhere when we hit the deer, I couldn’t imagine, at first, how we would get home and deal with all of this. But it was yet another lesson about life, it is, as my friend Karen Thompson says, 10 per cent about what happens to us and 90 per cent about how we react.

I have given up panic and lament and I don’t miss either. Cell phones give us such power and mobility, within a couple of minutes, I had reached the police, AAA, the insurance company, the auto body shop, and the car rental place. The system kicked in, computers traded case numbers with other computers.

The police were courteous, helpful and empathetic, Maria was sad by very calm and collected. It helps so much that we support one another when this happens, we do not get on each other’s nerves and second guess each other. I am so lucky in so many ways.

Life is complex, but some things are easier and simpler, if you can get your head around them. I have learned – late in life – to never speak poorly of my life or make it a struggle story. It might be listening.
