Dogs On The Path: Shades Of Life

Shades Of Life
When you think yours is the only true path you forever chain yourself to judging others and narrow the vision of God. The road to righteousness and arrogance is a parallel road that can intersect each other several times throughout a person’s life. It’s often hard to recognize one road from another. What makes them different is the road to righteousness is paved with the love of humanity. The road to arrogance is paved with the love of self.” – Shannon Adler.
We are, in fact, defined by the paths we take. Or don’t.

I’ve been taking photos of my dogs on paths ever since I started taking pictures six or seven years ago, right after I met Maria. Paths speak to me of life, perhaps for obvious reasons. I think of Rose, Lenore, Orson, Izzy, magical helpers who have guided me and comforted me and sometimes led me on my hero journey.

I thought for many years that the hero journey was for Luke Skywalker, not for people like me. But we are all on the journey. A good life, I think, is one hero journey after another. There are always dogs nearby, there are always paths to choose. This is my parallel road, paths intersect each other many times throughout my life, throughout Maria’s.

There always seem to be dogs, running ahead, waiting for me, leading me back home. On my walks on paths, I have not been able to capture the feeling of depth and shades and moving light, I think my new monochrome camera is helping me  to do that. The dogs, as always, are on their own paths, gathering their own stories, they are always waiting for me.

Ahead, are the shades of life. The road to righteousness is paved with love and empathy.
