Be Kind: Art From The Refugee Children

by Jon Katz
Be Kind

In Albany, the Refugee and immigrant Support Services (RISSE) organization runs an after school program, and the children wrote about their feelings about being in America. They make their own art and put it up on the wall.

There is a lot to be learned from the young, even as they learn English for the first time. “Be Kind,” was one of my favorite signs, along with “Respect,” “Treat Each OtherĀ  Equally” and “Follow All The Rules.” Good lessons for our political leaders.

These children are no threat to us, they are our brothers and sisters.
