Biddy, one of the Gang Of Four Romney sheep, wasn’t bothered by the snow, but I think she didn’t care for the high winds. She spent most of the day in the Pole Barn, but when I came out for the afternoon feeding, I saw she had been out in the snow. The storm is no longer raging, but it is still windy and still snowing. I think the worst is over, and our power is good and everyone seems to have survived. We had snow blowing in under the back door and into one window of my study, but otherwise, the old farmhouse was sturdy as a fort. We were grateful for it, and warm as well.

Refuge In The Storm
We had company all day during the storm, two Canadian Geese took refuge in our stream and the nearby marsh and spent the day with us. They were not afraid of us, the dogs or the animals. This was taken with the Petzval 58 lens.
Pinhole Photograph: Shelter In A Storm
This pinhole photograph captured the feeling of this intense storm, heavy winds, flying snow, animals clustered in shelter. The Pole Barn is deep enough to protect the animals from the wind, but they always stick their heads out, they like to see what is happening. They will be dry and warm – think of the wild on a night like this – but it will be a long night for all of us. The dogs have it the best. Even easier on me and Maria, we will be shoveling all morning.
Chloe: Restless In The Storm
Chloe was rattled by the fierce winds and blinding snow, she was excited to see us when we came out, she reared up on her hind legs and pawed the ground. She doesn’t mind the snow, but the shrieking wind upsets here, she finds a corner of the Pole Barn and watches the storm with the sheep. I don’t blame here, I’m a bit restless myself.
Whiteout: Red Under An Apple Tree
Red took up position under an apple tree in the pasture. The sheep weren’t going anywhere in the storm, but he wasn’t taking any chances. The animals are fed, we have retreated into the farmhouse.
