Soccer Power. The RISSE Kids Bring It Today

by Jon Katz
The Season Begins

The mighty RISSE soccer team is playing in Williamstown, Mass. this afternoon and Maria and I are heading there, loaded with bags full of portable soccer goals, kites, puzzles and games. We have been helping the team with some clothing and supplies, they are well-coached and fired up.

I’m bringing my camera, of course, and will share some of the game. These kids are coming to Bedlam Farm next Saturday, the first of a dozen or so visits that will bring more than 100 refugees and immigrant children and some teachers out to the country. They will all see Red and Fate work, meet donkeys, hear a healer talk about stress, see a dairy farm, go to Pompanuck Farm to practice soccer, see a dairy farm.

What a gift to get to know these brave and loving children, new arrivals to America. We hope to show them what a welcoming and open people we really are. More later.
