Here Comes The Refugee Girls Baskeball Team (And Gift Page Is Sold Out)

by Jon Katz
RISSE Women’s Basketball Team

Ali and I walked through the showroom of Wicked Smart, one of the hottest apparel companies in America,  in Watervliet, N.Y. yesterday. We brought the Nike equipment bags so that the player’s names can be stenciled in them, and also checked out some  uniforms for the new and kick-ass girl’s RISSE basketball team, getting ready for the Spring season. There are nine young women signed up for the team right now, these are the first five above.

In other good news, the new RISSE Amazon Gift Page sold out in about 10 minutes, the page was no match for the Army Of Good, which swept over them like a big happy wave. I think they are not used to such enthusiasm and energy and focus – just come to the Mansion.

This page lists the needs of the refugee kids and adults recently arrived in America, and in great need, as almost all of the federal subsidies to them are being cut.

They are scrambling to add more items to the wish list – stay tuned and thank you. If you wish to help buy these women some uniforms at the wonderful price of $25 a uniform – thank you, Todd Epps of Wicked Smart – you can donate by sending a contribution to my post office box, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816, or via Paypal, [email protected]. Please mark it “girls’ basketball,” and thanks.

I think they will deserve some equipment bags as well, but I’ll have to ask them what kind they want. I was told they like the backpack versions, smaller and colorful.
