The wisdom of Lenore

November 3, 2008 – I missed the farm, the blog, the animals, the camera. I missed the dogs, and I missed Lenore, the Hound Of Love, who grows every day in wisdom, beauty and heart. Lenore, it seems to me, grasps what it is important in life. Be fulfilled, and her signal to the world is clear and powerful. Love, love, love. Find it, drink it in, breathe it. It is more powerful than fear, more meaningful. It heals, changes, reminds us of what is truly important. Lenore knows this, not in her mind, but in her great heart.

Sometimes, if you catch Lenore in the right pose, you think she is a might and fierce hunting dog. She is not. She is the Love Dog, eager for love, and for good, not necessarily in that order. Gray and cool day. Going to look for a  gray and cool photo.

Hays In

November 3, 2008 – Mother surveys the new load of hay – 600 bales that came in over the weekend, just in time for the winter. I’ll need more around February I suspect. It’s a good feeling to have hay when the frost comes and the barn cats always find good places to sleep in there.

Hospice Journal: Come Meet Izzy and Lenore, November 15

Izzy, Juanita, and Mike from the Associated Press

November 3, 2008 – Izzy, Lenore and I are helping to host a benefit for the Washington County Hospice and Palliative Care Program on Saturday, November 15 (in the evening) at the Elks Club in Greenwich, N.Y. (518 642 – 9551 or 518 746-2400, ext. 3029). The money raised from the tickets will go to benefit this wonderful hospice program, which is responsible for my new book, “Izzy & Lenore: Two Dogs, An Unexpected Journey, and Me,” and, more importantly, for helping so many people leave the world with dignity and comfort.
So come meet Izzy and Lenore and me if you can. And enjoy a good dinner with good people. I’ll give a talk, and Izzy and Lenore will provide personal greetings. Izzy has been drawing crowds all over the country, so come see him on his home turf. I have been powerfully affected by seeing the hospice program at work, the dedication of the social workers, nurses, doctors and volunteers in action. It is special work requiring special people.
Jean Malone and Keith Mann of Washington County Hospice led me to this work, and I appreciate what they do. Come if you can.
We know things are tight for people now, but it’s time to end the mistreatment of the dying by noticing them, seeing them, helping them. Hope to see you there.
