Farmscape: Carriage Barn in Bedlam

The carriage barn is my favorite of my four barns. The Pig Barn is perhaps the most classic, and the Carriage Barn the most dignified. The Studio Barn is the ugliest, and the big hay barn the most functional. All were tottering, all have been stabilized or repaired, a proud thing for me. Expensive, too.

November 10, 2008 – Each day I think I come across leaves making their last stand, but each day there are still some hangers on. The sun seems to strike them more sharply, the fewer of them there are, and I am especially loving the pale yellow, green and red hues I see. Another week or so and I think they will all be gone. We’re still in the in-between time on the farm, some pasture, but putting hay out, a few leaves, but mostly bare trees, gray skies, no real cold. The animals have settled into their hay feeder routines, with the grumpy donkeys chasing the sheep away for awhile, the sheep returning to eat rather stubbornly.
I am ready for winter, the toughest time of year, but in many ways my favorite. The animals have their coats ready, the barn is full of hay. I have lots of good work to do. The Hound of Love keeps all of us warm and laughing.

Suggest deep thoughts and a contemplative streak. That is perhaps in the eye of the human, not the steer.
