Icte storm, cont., beautiful, nasty

 
   December 12, 2008 – Ice storms are the most beautiful and nasty of all the weather occurrences around the farm. The light coming through the ice on the trees is breathtaking, and so is the damage done by falling trees and limbs, icy roads and power and phone outages. On a farm, ice storms are a nightmare, freezing up doors, gates, water systems, making it nearly impossible to move around or get much hay out. Ice storms wreak havoc. Lost power for a bit, and Internet and cell phones were out, and about a dozen trees on the property cracked and fell.
 One of the eeriest sounds in an ice storm is the cracking of limbs out in the woods, which sounds a lot like rifle fire. Was out walking with the dogs and a big pine tree cracked and creaked, then slowly fell over right behind us. The dogs got moving.
