Cold wave, cont. Ice drop in a grapevine

There is beauty in small things, and the beauty of art is that you can sometimes find it if you look hard enough. This week will be brutally cold, a challenge in some ways, an opportunity in others. The cold brings a special dimension to light and matter, and the challenge is for me to capture it, and to take the light, shape and images of cold and make sense of them. We’ll see. It beats living in a warm house.

Revealed: Why Lenore has been throwing up

January 12, 2009 – So walking on the path today, Lenore joyously brought me what I first thought was a stick, but which turned out to be the leg of a deer, probably eaten by coyotes. For some days, Lenore has been veering off the path out of sight, and then throwing up and having diarrhea in the farmhouse. She was horrified when I took the thing away from her, and I had to put it in the truck and drive it miles away or she would have tracked it down. There is not much Lenore would not eat, but I suspect snacking on the rest of the deer and on the foot may have contributed to her digestive troubles.
She could not have been prouder or happier to have this deer part, and I was sorry to take it away from her. But not very.
