On her tractor, mowing her lawn, writing her poems,  living her life. Putting her lips to the world. Love you, Mary.

Whistling Woman

July 6, 2009 – Spent a wonderful hour or so at Mary Kellogg’s farm this afternoon taking photos for her next volume of poetry, “Whistling Woman,” due out late this summer or fall. I got some shots of Mary on her mower, but I loved this soft portrait of her shot through some leaves on the tree in her garden. Mary is a celebration of friendship, life and creativity.
There is always a smile around her eyes, and a bit of sadness, too, perhaps thinking of her beloved husband Dick, who died ten years ago. Mary is a gifted poet, her first volume of poems, “My Place On Earth,” is still selling at the Troy Bookmakers. I love “Whistling Woman.” Mary is always changing, and faces life with much life and great heart. We sat by her garden talking. She is a wonderful friend, and a miraculous addition to my life.
She told me recently that she likes me better than she did a couple of years ago. I know what she means.
