For Rose, changes

July 30, 2009 – For humans, change is inevitable, an integral part of life. I imagine it’s more confusing for dogs, even though they are famously adaptable. I took Rose out the pasture this morning and she looked for the sheep, and seemed to grasp that they are not thre. Rose has a map in her head of how the farm works, and she is constantly adjusting it. We went to a neighbor’s farm and she herded sheep for a bit.
Then she chased her slingshot ball, ran after a frisbee. Later we will go for an ATV run, which she loves above all things. Like Frieda, and surely Izzy, Rose is very adaptable. She will have a new tradition, and as long as she has focused work to do, she will adjust. So will I. Dogs are not inferior to us, but the working breeds live in our service, and the nature of our work changes.
