  This is the Domestic Arts and Vegetables Hall, where the photos will be hung and judged Sunday at the Washington County Fair. I’m up against some artistic farmer’s and farmer’s wives who do more with their point-and-shoots than I can do with my fancy Canon. Maybe.

  Maria today finished one of the first batches of her $9 rogue quilt potholders, all sold, and made out of discarded clothing. Last night, we were talking about the history of quilts, which began with women making them out of discarded rags and clothes for the most utilitarian of reasons – warmth. Maria makes all of her quilts, including the potholders, out of stuff she scavenges from thrift shots and God knows where. She has orders for more.
