Em on TV at a friend’s house

Had the deliciously strange experience of seeing my daughter Emma, who has written a book about New York baseball to be published next Spring (we are considering joint appearances) on Jeopardy last night, pre-taped from good old Hollywood.
I was at the home of two new friends, both artists, and we all watched as Em held her own against two men with great amounts of arcane knowledge and quick buzzer reflexes. She looked great and did well. Technology being what it is, all sorts of people connected us and e-mailed me about her appearance, even before I got home. In this country, everybody knows everything about everyone. Might as well accept it.
Em was on her toes, and managed to plug her book on national TV, the important thing. I called her after the show and told her you win just be being on. Go, girl.

Appreciating Izzy. If any dog has a soul, he does.

In memory of Mary

Remembering Mary wife of David Kelly. She died young, and I imagine her to be happy, funny, family-centered.

Considering life: Cemetery, West Hebron, N.Y.

When I visit the town cemetery, I tried an imagine the people, by their names, what their families say about them, the type of tombstone. I make up stories for each of them.

Our sister, Rebeca

Rebecca died in 1806, and I visit her regularly and wonder about her. I left her a mum.
