Izzy, Rose. Portrait

This is one of those photos that reveals more than the photographer sees in the viewfinder. I love that Izzy’s eyes are closing as he lies down and Rose’s are wide open and vigilant. I was lying on the ground in front of them.
The Daily Potholder, in the Pig Barn

Potholder on a hay bale
I love taking the daily potholder photos. I put several in the Pig Barn with Rose (more of those later) and I like putting them out of context, just as I did the Daily Egg. Like the egg, I find these potholders – Maria makes and sells them them along with her quilts in the studio barn – individualistic. I see each photo as a portrait, and each one is different. I also like the ethic behind them – art that is both useful and inexpensive.
ASA Calendar on sale. Worthy Xmas Gift.

The Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) Calendar is on sale. You can call 518 692-7285 or go to the ASA website.
The calendar contains photographs by me and Corinna Aldrich, an award-winning Washington County photography. The photos are of the country, farmscapes, my animals, and Corinna’s evocative interpretations of farm life. The ASA works to preserve farmland from encroaching development. A great cause, and a neat calendar.
Lighten Up. Mother is on the prowl

Somebody e-mailed me and told me to lighten up. Always good advice. I tend to rely on Lenore for that,
but humor is as precious as anything, and sometimes in our self-absorption we forget it. I’m going off to take a photo of the “Did You Know?” writer at Stewart’s who goes around every day and posts “Did You Know?” stickers all over the convenience stores.
”Did You Know We Have Egg Nog?” it’s a job I could have.
The Webs We Weave

The spiders are packing up and heading inside for the winter, so I thought I’d remember them with this photo I took about a month ago off of the pasture fence. Spiderwebs can be beautiful.
