Differing agendas

Differing agendas

More and more, the four dogs have meshed as a unit. They are comfortable together, even though when they pose each morning, you also see how different each of the dogs is. Rose is always checking out the environment, Frieda is beginning to muse, happy to stare out into the woods. Izzy always looks at me, and Lenore looked at the camera because I took a biscuit out of my pocket and put it on my head. Rose is not bribeable.

IMG_9358 - Version 2 A new hobby is walking the streets of Glens Falls, N.Y., a city strongly rebounding from hard times. It is filled with energy, art, new bookstores, restaurants, museums and shops. We passed this window, part of a radio station, which had a live band performing in the window.

Izzy returns to Hospice duty

Izzy returns to Hospice duty

After a couple of months off, Izzy and I are returning to Washington County Hospice Duty. Above, Izzy hangs out with Keith Mann, “Sarge”, the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator conducting a training class for new volunters. Izzy loves Keith.

Izzy and I saw a lot of people die last year, and we needed some time off. Recharged, we are  ready to get back to work. I have to get some shots and a new ID, and then we are ready. I love hospice work, but it’s also something that has to be managed. Izzy has a very special gift for this work, and I don’t want to waste it. Working with Keith, a great friend, is a pleasure. As long as you do your paperwork.

Psssst. You didn’t hear it from me, as I’m not supposed to be touting this, but what the hell, she’s off in Glens Falls, today. Maria’s excellent new quilt show, “Cut It Up” opens this coming Monday in the gallery of the Crandall Public Libary, Glens Falls, N.Y. There will be a reception, on February 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. Maria’s quilts are as quirky, inventive and individualistic as she is and as her potholders are, and I love the notion of discard fabrics reinvented as beautiful art.  You can view her quilts and some of her potholders – they are still selling very well – on her website.

Maria does not ever tout herself, so somebody has to do it.

One of the  joys of my life has been watching Maria evolve as an artist, turning the Studio Barn into a little hive of creativity, machines humming and fabric, batting and old clothes pouring in and out.

And the public is invited to the reception. There is no charge. I might be there myself.

The book opens with Rose hearing a sound from the pasture while the farmer sleeps. This is the first page.
