Daily Meeting. Notecards

Two new notecards series
Had a nice meeting with Christine Nemec of Redux Art Gallery about notecards. She is offering two new sets of notecards — “The Daily Meeting” of the Dogs of Bedlam Farm, with some text from me, and “Red Barns In The Snow.” These will be posted shortly on her website for viewing and purchase, if they aren’t already. We have also chosen some photos for a “Rose” notecard pack.
Then we’ll slow down, hopefully sell through the notecards we’ve ordered and see what sells. The first batch sold out, but we’re not sure how big the demand is, or isn’t. I have a good feeling about it though. We’re already talking about Mother’s Day notecards.
The notecards are an effort to get my photos out there at prices people can afford, but we’ll see how many sell and how people respond to them. The notecards are expensive to produce – what isn’t – but we both love the idea of trying to get them out there, and I have all kinds of photos – dogs, farm animals, sheep, trucks, chickens, cows – that might make notecards. Affordable and functional art for the times.
And I love seeing my photos sail out there this way. But we want to be cautious (not like me) and see what the demand is, and how people respond to them. So far, so good. The initial response was amazing. We are both excited about selling them this year, especially as we get to holidays, Christmas, and different seasons.

Teacup Sunrise. A promise

Sunrise promise: Maria's Teacup
Taken at dawn with a 100 mm macro lens, yellow highlighted a tad in Aperture. ISO 100, aperture f/5.6, shutter speed 1/320. I am considering buying a Canon G11 Point and Shoot to take to places where I don’t want to carry my monster camera and lenses.
February 14, 2010 – Taking a break from my short story, heading out to visit Christine Nemec at Redux and the puppy Georgia. I love the teacup in the sunrise, as each sunrise is a promise to me, and a challenge to make good use of another day. Life slips quickly by. I do not want to waste it. Each day is a choice for me, a decision to live and love and grow and change. And tell my stories.
Izzy, waiting

Izzy, in the fence
Izzy is perhaps the most at ease dog I have known. When he is not with me, he is waiting for me, and he is patient and calm. This is how he waits for me in the back yard.
Frieda, Fetch. Sort of

Frieda, trying to play
Frieda, it seems, is a playful creature. She reminds me of Frankenstein in the movie, when he tries to play with the little girl and ends up crushing her by mistake. When you say “fetch” to Frieda, she doesnt’ retrieve. She goes and finds the largest tree limb, pulls it off and drags it around. Some of them are big enough to know you down. The other dogs run when Frieda starts to play. She means no harm, but doesn’t quite know how to do it. I always like to tell Lenore and the border collies that Frieda is the only real dog around. Just kidding. Sort of.
