Fallen leaves. Life changes

Fallen leaves. Life changes

I am often being reminded that one of the core elements of life is change. It is not the exception but the rule, not the drama but the fabric. How one deals with change shapes much of life. I see this in my photos all the time. Some yellow leaves are starting to appear out in the woods, the very first intimation of fall. One fell on a stone wall just as the sun cut through the forest.  I was waiting. This shot is very spiritual to me.

Different kind of day

Different kind of day

I had planned to go take photos of the Argyle Fourth of July Parade, but it turned out it was Saturday, not Sunday. Tomorrow, I may join Maria where she works at an adult residential community for emotionally disabled people, where they are having a barbecue. So we had a lazy day. We moved firewood. Visited the donkeys. I took photos. Had lunch on the porch. Drove to Northshire bookstore and then walked around Manchester, Vt. Came back and had pesto pizza on the porch.

Been reading all night. Sweet day. Ken Norman, the farrier and a good friend is coming to trim Lulu and Fanny’s hooves tomorrow morning. Got to get them into the barn before he gets here. If they even hear his truck, they’ll be off and they need some trimming. Brushed the dogs. Am tired.

Tomorrow I plan to deal with the little boy who turned up in the photo of me and my mother. Might go to see Christine Nemec at Redux Art Gallery, and help train Georgia, her great Lab, and also talk about the Affordable Art Show on July 24. Getting some interest in moving it to some nearby towns and cities if it works out. I hope this is an idea that spreads. Maria is getting lots of interest in her potholders and shoulder bags. And e-book reader bags.

Dogs in the garden, staying cool

It’s in the 90′s today. I read a story in one journal on the metabolism of dogs in the heat. They really slow down. I have learned a lot from seeing how animals accept their circumstances. They don’t bitch about the weather, for sure.

Lazy day

Lazy day

Working on letting go of the past. We wrote our own stories, and often they are not the whole truth, or even a good truth.

Notes. The farm is off the market,  not for sale. Book tour for “Rose In A Storm” has been moved up to October 5, details to come. The blog and Facebook will play a new and expanded role. Good buzz on Creative Union Affordable Art Show, to be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Redux Gallery in Dorset, Vt. Nothing over $15 from Maria and I – potholders, glass and cell phone cases, photos/notecards. The other works in the gallery will be priced as usual.

Lazy weekend. Maria has to work on Sunday and I am planning a lazy day of walking, reading, doing some work on myself. I want a spiritual life. One of my great remaining goals in life, but you can’t work at it the way you work on other things. It is slower, requires more patience. More spirit. It is true that we control little in life, but the part we do control – our interior selves, is important.
