Spring. cont. Flowers, ticks, grass.

The daisy

Even though there is still three feet of ice behind the big barn, Spring is emerging. There is grass in the pasture. We are getting the soil tested for planting. Darryl Kuehne’s sheep are getting shorn and are arriving here soon. We are pulling ticks off of the dog, and off of us. We went to Gardenworks today to buy some pansies. Maria is getting into gardening. I loved photographing the winter landscape, but I am drawn to the Spring colors now, and I think color is really my thing.

I thought this morning that one idea of God is the creative spark in us, the light and spirit we all fight to keep alive. Flowers certainly capture that. I have read Merton, Aquinas, Bibles, St. Augustine, now reading the Kabbala, the mystical Hebrew texts. Tough reading, powerful images and writing. If it’s good enough for Madonna and Mick Jagger, it’s good enough for me. A friend says I am a mystic, wandering around my farm in Upstate New York. I laughed. Just a crazy man, I said, one of many.
