Button Box

emptied of candy
the metal lid lifts
to hold a treasure
clipped carefully from shirts and such.

a rainy day pastime to count
and marvel at colors and shapes.

how many reds with curly sides
oyster shell looks and fine pink covers.

a special find
soldier emblem on gold
or tiny pearl
and
two black buttons for my rag doll's eyes.
