The Change Purse

The change purse lies
within the dresser drawer
its leather worn
its clasp brown with rust

you know the years
the heart and soul of
life and home
were drawn from you.

blunt tired fingers
have taken from your well
of hardship coins
and unforeseen gifts.

You stored the meager wealth
to grace the offering plate
of life's expense.
