Farm Journal (June 9, cont.)

 The Nothing Day is off to a busy start. Drove to Shushan to see Sandy Adams’ goats for sale. Two calm and sweet pygmies – Nutmeg and Buddy – are coming to Bedlam Farm. Brian Adams will build a small hutch for me, and they can have access to two shelters – theirs in the cow pasture, and the old lambing pen behind the house. These seem like easy going, bright and useful creatures. They are used to dogs – Izzy came with me – and Lord knows I have plenty of scrub for them to eat. Sandy tells me goats like apples and stale bread and cereal. They have no idea how lucky they are to be coming to a farm where Annie is caretaker. Don’t really have a sense of goats yet. It will be interesting watching them and getting to know them.
