Years of Struggle – Farm Journal of Elmer G. Powers, June, 1931
The weather is very bad for all live stock. Many horses are dead from the heat. At the beginning of the heat wave the rendering plants paid the farmers for these dead horses, then they quit paying for them, and finally when they were piling up on them so fast, refused to take them at all. Many of these horses were badly needed on the farms right now.
