November 12, 2007 – Cold, clear. Lenore ate about a pound of donkey manure today, incalculable amounts of sheep poop. She came into the pasture with me, and I was distracted by a lame donkey. Labs are labs, and I wasn’t paying attention until she came running up to me and licked me. Whew. The intestinal issues were prodigious. This is life with Labs, right? Sweetness and love, and they will eat anything. She ate a printout of a book chapter and a photo disk. Into the crate. She is mischievious, loving and very calm, when she’s not eating. She and Rose have bonded big time, and play all day.
The solution to the eating of revolting stuff? Do nothing. The more you call attention to it, the more they will do it, and for longer. It is part of life with Labs, and for the most part, they will grow out of it. I will work on our “leave it” commands. A test of my patience and fortitude, not hers.
Sorry to bring this up here, but we are all dog people, right, or most of us, and this is part of our life with dogs.
