January 6, 2008 – Cloudy, warming. Temperature above freezing for the first time in a week, and no impending storms. Good news. I took this daunting photo of Elvis’s belly yesterday, and I have to say, that big boy eats a lot of hay. It was like looking down the hull of a steamship.
Happy announcement. In keeping with my myriad New Year’s plans, I am in negotiations with the superintendent of a local school system to teach a creative writing class to a small number of interested high school students, a five or six-week program that will involve conceiving, writing and hopefully publishing (maybe even on this blog) a work of fiction. Could be a poem, story, or anecdote. I can’t mention the district until it’s all approved, but I am excited about it. Good for me as a writer and hopefully good for some kids who want to polish and hone their writing. I’ve done this a couple of times before, and it’s a pleasure to help light up some kid who wants to write, if it works out.
I’ll keep everybody posted.
