Factory in Glens Falls, N.Y.

January 6, 2008 – Warming, thawing, messy and muddy. Introducing a new Farm Journal feature, called
“Upstate Nights.” Getting ready for my new photo site, photosbyjonkatz.com, up in a few weeks and as part of that, I’m going to head out two or three nights a week at night – Izzy and Lenore make up the photo team and am looking for shots that capture this enchanting and strange and beautiful and rural and poor and historic place at night. Going to go inside diners and bars and pool halls and catch a lot of neon lights and learn how to shoot in the dark.
  It’s tricky. You have to watch traffic, and everybody thinks you’ve broken down and asks if you’re okay when you pull over. Then there’s managing the tripod and lens changes and shutter speed changes in the dark. Izzy and Lenore usually doze through this. I hope to catch more people inside buildings when things get rolling.
 Had a good first night. These photos will be part of the new site rather than this one, but I’m warming up.
