March 2,2008 – Izzy, Lenore and I went to the United Presbyterian Church in Greenwich, N.Y., where I gave the guest sermon, about Hospice work and why it is not depressing. Izzy and Lenore took the pulpit and Izzy as perfectly well-behaved, as always,  and Lenore did beautifully, except when the communion wafer bowl was filled, and we had a bit of a disturbance. Otherwise, she was an angel, lay still and only got excited when the choir director stood up. She seemed a bit puzzled that every single person in church didn’t come over to see her, but then settled down and slept while I spoke, snoring loudly. This dog’s stress level is not high.
  Izzy and Lenore are both Hospice dogs, working for the Washington County, N.Y., Hospice and Palliative Care Agency. I am also a volunteer, known mostly for driving Izzy around. Keith Mann of Hospice, also a good friend, spoke about the ways people can contribute to Hospice work, whether or not they volunteer. I sort of liked taking the pulpit, heh-heh. The Church invited us back for another talk next month, and if they don’t change their minds, we will happilhy go.
