Thanksgiving Week. Renew Thyself. Again And Again.

Giving Thanks

This will be an important Thanksgiving Week for me. In some ways, this is my first real Thanksgiving.

Maria and I are staying on the farm, inviting a few friends, devoting the day to giving thanks. We will be cooking the meal together, as we do all important things together.  I am grateful for her. For the farm. For my daughter. For the blog. For my friends. For the donkeys, and the chickens and the barn cats.  For my books. For photography. For the people who read and see my work.

For the light in the world. For the good people who live their lives every day in peace and honor. For the babies born. For the people who die, and whose souls and spirits give rebirth to themselves.  As the wonderful writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote, we are not born just once, when our mother gives birth to us, but life calls upon us to give birth to ourselves again and again and again. That is the work.

I give thanks to creative spark, given to all of us, and to the brave and determined people who tell the stories and live their lives. I hope to honor the week by stepping back and making sure I am truly grateful for the many wonderful things in my life and in the world and will step away from anger, fear and judgement, the opposite of gratitude. The world is challenging, the world is difficult, the world is wonderful and full of magic and mystery.
