Ajay mulls the foundations of the old barn, where I first saw Rocky, all cleared and soon to be a hay feeding area for Rocky and the donkeys. It’s beginning to look like a farm, beginning to look like a life.
My favorite spider was hard at work in the big barn today, her gallery, where she debuts her best work. In the morning, on misty days, her gallery is spectacular. Would that I could buy this web and hang it in my office. It inspires me.
Ben went to work on Maria’s Studio Barn this morning preparing to blow insulation between the walls, clearing out garbage and debris. It’s a beautiful space – can’t wait to see what he does with it, how it progresses. It is critical, this workspace, Maria’s workplace. A dozen times she has offered to postpone, work elsewhere until there’s money. It can’t be postponed, it is the heart of us.
We moved the sheep from Bedlam Farm to the New Bedlam Farm yesterday and it went off without a hitch, thanks to Maria, Ken Norman, his wife Eli, his helper Eden and the Barn Fairy Nikolene. The move went well, the sheep loved their new pasture, checking out the low green grass, their new skidbarn. It was an important step for us, a move towards our new home. When animals come to a farm, it comes to life, the move becomes real, and we are prepared to give them a good home, close by the farmhouse with good food and fresh water. After the sheep were settled and Red worked with them, we took a walk in the fields behind the farmhouse and we were surprised and delighted when Rocky joined us.
Rocky takes several walks a day behind the barns, out in the fields, he is almost always out there when we come, but this time he clearly wanted to be with us, nuzzling me, Maria, especially Red, who he loves to be near. The four of us explored the back marshes and woods, a sweet afternoon all around. I took some video of all of it, and come and you are invited to come and see this landmark day for us and our lives.
