Fate Is A Tramp

Fate has her brazen side. Normally shy around big dogs, she ran into this husky at the lake this afternoon and before I could get the camera up, she was in the water trading sniffs and kisses. The two went tearing around the water for a bit, then chased each other. He was no match for her speed, but she didn’t run far. I’ve urged Maria to sit down with her and have a talk. This was the first date, and they weren’t even introduced.

Portrait: Pizza Man, Cook: Dominick Brings Order…

by Jon Katz

Dominick works the pizza ovens with Scott Carrino on Friday night’s, he has helped bring order to the process. Scott’s wood-fired pizza’s are getting popular, it was getting chaotic, but Scott and Dominick have joined up – Team Pizza – to make it a well-oiled machine. Scott brings all kinds of fresh vegetables – he is manic about everything being fresh – from his gardens and has an elaborate system to keep the ovens hot and the orders moving alone.

He and Dominick work easily together, Dominick is focused and oriented to detail, as is Scott.  They are, in many ways, two peas in a pod. Dominick is going to work at the Round House Cafe in the kitchen several days a week, he has thus been drawn into the Bedlam orbit, God Help him. He doesn’t smile all that easily, I told  him to look at my bald spot and pointed the camera at him. He bit.

Waiting For Pizza: Red And Maria.

by Jon Katz

Waiting For Pizza

We all love our animals, as we should, but I have to admit I have a very special place in my heart for Red, he is my shadow, my companion, my friend. He goes everywhere I go, graciously and willingly. He has a sweet and generous and forgiving heart, he is the most loving creature. Tonight, as usual, we went to the Round House to eat Scott Carrino’s quite wonderful wood oven pizza, Red always comes, he and Scott are friends.

I looked over and saw Maria communing with Red, head to head, they were talking to each other, two great hearts and generous spirits come together.

Heads Up! Bedlam Farm Yarn For Sale

by Jon Katz
Bedlam Farm Yarn For Sale
Bedlam Farm Yarn For Sale

A heads up for yarn lovers. Maria is putting up some skeins of yarn from our sheep this afternoon. Above is wool from Socks, Zelda and Susie, from left to right. A lot of her yarn is already sold, there were a lot of requests left over from the Spring shearing, but I think there are about 25 skeins left, they are $23 each plus shipping. There is also some roving for sale.

We are always amazed at how beautiful the wool looks after the Vermont Knitting Mill gets done with it, we are shearing the sheep again in November.  The color of their wool changes, it gets deeper and richer, Zelda’s is an astonishingly pure white. This has become one of our favorite rituals, between selling the yarn and the sheepherding, our sheep earn their keep. You can order the yarn on Maria’s website this afternoon.  You can also e-mail her at [email protected]. If you are interested I wouldn’t wait, it doesn’t usually last long.
