First Look: Ed Gulley Makes A Meditation Bench For Our Woods

by Jon Katz

I’ve never had a friend quite like Ed Gulley, I don’t believe anyone does,  there isn’t anyone like Ed Gulley. The first big news is that Ed has shed some of the “Duck Dynasty” look he favored, and Carol has trimmed his beard. If anything, he looks even meaner and more formidable than he did before. Ed is a force of nature.

And now, a meditation bench for me and Maria. I plan to sit out there every afternoon for an hour, part of my Peaceful Hour (more about that later.)

I mentioned in front of Ed while we were out in the woods that I’d love a meditation bench for the woods we are finally able to access (thanks to the Ed Gulley Memorial Bridge), and you have to be careful what you mention to Ed, he likes to get things done and he is one of the most creative people I know.  I thought this would happen in many months down the road, and I didn’t think it was even possible to do, to get a bench way out there.

It is a mistake to underestimate Ed. His workshop is like a fairy-land, almost anything can come out of there.

Ed is also a writer and blogger and artist. Just look at the surging blog he and Carol Gulley publish together every day, it is a big hit. This morning, Ed put up a  video (above) of his Meditation Bench For Bedlam Farm, and it is ingenious and portable (since he predicts I will want to move if I don’t get the right vibes.)

Maria and I watched Ed’s video and saw the bench for the first time this morning. We love it, it’s perfect and it’s portable.

Is is very ingenious, made out of two chairs and a sturdy board. More to come.

It is very good of Ed to think of this, I would have gone to some antique store and tried to buy an old bench, probably for hundreds of dollars.  Ed is even cheaper than Maria, he does not buy things, he makes them. When Armageddon finally comes, I’m heading for Bejosh Farm, they will be dancing in the pasture.

Ed has opened up our woods to us, and it has changed life on the farm. I don’t want his big head to get any bigger, but we love Ed and appreciate him. He never misses a chance to help or waits to asked. And the sucker can write. If he gets any more popular, he’s going to make me nervous.

Ed is the poster boy for authentic curmudgeons anywhere, his work is a calling, his workshop and life full of strong values.

I think the first warm day, we’ll have a bench out in our woods, as if Ed cares about the weather.
