Robin: Watching The Donkeys

by Jon Katz
Meeting The Donkeys

Earlier this morning, I sent Robin a video showing her the donkeys she will meet when she comes to the farm this Spring. Then, Emma e-mailed me this photo of Robin watching the video. It is quite amazing now, the different ways in which we can communicate. Messaging technology is sometimes a nightmare, sometimes a boon.

This is a way for Robin and I to communicate, even though we are many miles apart. I have no idea what she can take from the video, perhaps it will put the idea of the farm into her very young head.

That’s the whole idea about technology. You can see the video here.

The Fox Goes To Brooklyn

The Fox Goes To Brooklyn

Maria found this fox at Battenkill Books yesterday, we thought he needs to live in Brooklyn with Robin. He’s going to the Post Office today for shipment. He is quite soft and loveable. When I came down this morning, the sun was streaming through the living window, and warming him up for the trip.

Robin, Meet The Donkeys. You Will See Them Soon.

by Jon Katz

Emma and her husband Jay are threatening to come visit the farm with Robin in the Spring. There are numerous logistics to figure out, namely how they will get here. I also need get a crib for her and a car seat and other things so that they won’t have to haul a ton of things up from New York.

I think the farm will be something of a shock for Robin, although I think it will be a nice shock. Lulu and Fanny love kids, and kids love Lulu and Fanny. A good place to start the tour.

The current plan calls for them to take the train to Albany, where we can pick them up, or they might rent a car. We’ll see. To prepare Robin, I’ve begun a series of video/letters for her so she will be prepared for things like donkeys, chickens, barn cats and sheep, things she has never seen in Brooklyn.

In the video. I sneer a bit at her hip and snooty parents, but I’m mostly kidding. They are not snooty at all. Anyway, I’llĀ  share these videos with you. I told Robin donkeys are a lot like small and precocious children – independent, sometimes affectionate, sometimes not, unpredictable and wicked smart. Come along.
