Come And See Red’s New Work

by Jon Katz

Red and I have been working together for a number of years now, and we have accomplished a lot together. We are close, for sure, and there is a deep and enduring trust between the two of us.

Red has helped a lot of people, including me, and I see that he is not nearly done yet. He is working his way back from a week ago, where he was paralyzed from the waist down.

Over the objections of some people, I am returning Red to work slowly, and with great caution. No running, no getting close to the sheep. Red is getting healthier by the day, and some work is an essential ingredient of that.

My vet and her staff drive by the farm every day, and if they see Red out in the pasture, I will  get into trouble. But there is no twisting or running, and I can see how good it is for him to be doing this.

Come and see Red work, and keep the sheep in their own part of the pasture when it comes time for hay. I think this is work we will be able to do for a good while.

I love working with Red, and figuring things out with him. We have a wonderful foundation to build on.

Come and see.

  1. Have you considered long distance Reiki treatments? Have worked wonders for my old lab who is 13. If we are all energy then we are all connected so the idea of long distance healing is not so bizarre. All the best to you, Red and the rest of your “family”.

  2. It is good to see Red back working, maybe not as he used to but important none the less. I think we all need some purpose in our lives and as our bodies and abilities change hopefully we can modify our lives in a positive manner just like Red. Blessings to you, Maria, and the whole crew at Bedlam Farms <3

  3. Does Fate just run in circles around the sheep? She made me laugh. She must be such a fun dog. Glad to see Red taking things seriously. Fate sure doesn’t seem to. Where was Bud?

    1. Really? The vet thinks it was a wonderful idea, she loved the video…does it bother you that you have no idea what you are talking about?

  4. Oh, this was wonderful to watch, Jon! Red gets to do what he loves! In every exercise class I have taken, the instructor has given us modifications for each exercise, for those of us who can’t, because of limitations, do it the same way. We move, nonetheless, in a safe way for us. This is what I see here. And Fate – your joy dog – she is a hoot to watch!
