Ron Dre And The Power Of Words. We Did It In Hours

by Jon Katz

My experience with Ron Dre, Bishop Maginn, the Mansion and the Army Of Good are teaching me the power words.

Words work. At least $10,000 in checks (tax-deductible) are on their way – thank you, Kathleen – to the principal of Bishop Maginn High School for Ron’ Dre’s tuition. Given the chance, Americans are compassionate and loving people.

Don’t believe their news.

Words are all we have, even in the digital age,  they are transforming lives and working small miracles.

Yesterday, I asked for help in paying for the tuition of Ron Dre, a brilliant 15-year-old from Albany, N.Y. whose teachers say was the best pupil in his entire middle school.

He loves Greek Mythology, especially Poseidon, King Of The Sea. Books on the way. He has topped the honor roll in his school ever since he’s been there, and Bishop Maginn is desperate to get him there. But the family can’t afford the tuition.

So I wrote about it last night, and am humbled, deeply touched and excited to report his tuition for the next three years has been taken care of.

I wish I had more inventive ways of thanking you, this is quite an amazing thing we have embarked on, we are changing many lives for the better and in a loving and positive way.

Checks are on the way to Mike Tolan, Principal, Bishop Maginn High School, 75 Park Avenue, Albany, N.Y., 12202. If you wish to pay off Ron’s final year of tuition – we’re looking for $4,000 a year – your contributions would be welcome. If there is any overage, it will go into the school’s tuition fund, which the Army Of Good is helping to build.

Thanks. On to the Security Wish List.
