Pals

by Jon Katz

Bud has been wonderful to Zinnia, and the two hang out together and play together as often I let them (I don’t like a lot of playing inside the house. They can take it outside anytime they like.) Their play is often very sweet and very soft like it was this morning.

Bud is a very sweet and generous dog, he even lets Zinnia pull treats and chew sticks right out of his mouth. Fate, on the other hand, does not. They were trading a treat back and forth quietly in the middle of the day.

Bud’s presence has been helpful to Zinnia. The transition from mother and siblings to a new and strange home is made easier by the presence of a kind and generous dog. But was always wonderful to Red as well.

  1. I had a sense looking at this photo of Bud and Zinnia, (and photos of Bud and Red), that Bud has a bodily memory of his companions in his previous life. Like it is part of his connection and meaning in his world. I can’t quite articulate what I feel looking at Bud but there is something in his eyes and spirit that moves me. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this?

    1. Interesting, Carol, I hadn’t thought of that, I’ll mull it a bit and thanks..I think Bud carries many memories of his former life, but there were very few dogs in his life, and they all perished in the pen where he lived outdoors..

      1. If any dog deserved to hit the lottery it was Bud. And he returns it tenfold to any creature that isn’t in his terrier path. You are going to have a wonderful, cohesive pack when Fate finally gives in and realizes life is more fun playing. Meanwhile Bud and Zinnia are such a delight to behold.
