Podcast: Zinnia In Bedlam, Vulva Xmas Decorations, Risks

by Jon Katz

In our new podcast, Maria talks about shocked that she got little or no response to her idea for Vulva Christmas decorations, we talk about whether or not we live in a bubble. We talk about creative risks and also talk about the effect Zinnia, our new Lab puppy, has had on life in Bedlam Farm.

Quite a bit, as it happens. Bud is thrilled, Fate’s nose is out of joint, I’m in love.

Please check out the podcast, it’s a powerful new way to share our story offers the most penetrating window yet into life at Bedlam Farm and the way in which Maria and I relate to one another.

Come and listen here.

  1. I see Maria is not aware or you John, but vulva christmas decorations are not a new thing at all. If you google vulva christmas decorations or vulva ornaments or vagina -shaped christmas decorations you will see hundreds of models of them. Cheers!

    1. I am certainly not aware, Nicola, I believe Maria is well aware. I’m not sure what your point is, but cheers to you too.

  2. People appear to be reluctant to hang ornaments that look like vulvas on their Christmas trees? Who could have predicted that? lol

  3. I debated whether to comment on this post about “vulva Christmas decorations” but in the spirit of giving I decided to offer this advise for you and Marie to combat you “living in a bubble”. You need to form a new “circle” — a Circle of Common Sense.

Christmas is a religious celebration for a lot of people as well as a time to showing our love and respect to people who are close to us especially children in our lives. With this context, the connection of vulva Christmas decorations with these holiday’s themes is not necessarily apparent to us mere mortals. I not sure Bishop Maginn High School parents would see the connections either.

So a Circle of Common Sense for you and Marie may help ground you in understanding social norms and sensitivities as well as religious beliefs which you appear to not consider. You may want to start to recruit members from Jean’s Place as well as the Mansion e.g., the aides who are both grounded in everyday life experiences. The hope is to avoid insensitive posts with no context or explanations and as a result offend people who enjoy your puppy postings and then get “hit” with the unexpected.

    1. It sounds like a lecture, Bob, and a fairly pompous and obvious one at that. We don’t issue those or pay much attention to them. I wish you a very Merry Christmas in whatever spirit you wish to pursue, with whatever people you choose. I can’t say I recall asking you for advice on how we should live.
