Sleeping Dogs, American Utopia

by Jon Katz

Maria and I watched David Byrne’s American Utopia last night on HBO, it was extraordinary, timely, and beautiful. Our three dogs lay at our feet, curled up, warm and asleep, none of the moved during the nearly two-hour performance.

The only word I can think of for Byrne (Talking Heads) and his band is brilliant. But it was sweet looking down at this row of wonderful dogs, each in their own favorite place, keeping us company.

  1. Hey Jon, I watched it too, it was just the performance I needed to lift my spirits. David Byrne and his band really knocked it out of the park, and it was directed by Spike Lee, the choreography and the musicianship was astounding. Music has an amazing way of connecting and grounding me, I put on a fave album and my entire being changes, better medicine than any doctor could prescribe. I’m glad you liked it as well, it’s weirdly comforting to know we watched the same thing at the same time even though we are at opposite ends of the continent, good taste know no bounds ?

  2. I only have Granddogs. Moose and Sadie are such wonderful company when their parents go out of town. One is sleeping on a blanket on the sofa and the other on another blanket in the rocking chair. All is well at the Stone household.

  3. Lol! I watched the fabulous David Byrne with my sweet Tucker at my feet. I’m a huge Talking a Heads fan and Tina inspired me to learn the bass. ?????
