The Button Tree: Coming To A Fiber Artist Near You?

by Jon Katz

Kathleen Nohe, a jewelry maker and a reader and follower of Maria and her blog, recently sent her several bags of wonderful buttons.

She and I were so taken by them we spread them out on the dining room table and played with different sizes and shapes.

Maria said I had unknowingly created a button tree, and I saw she was right and tidied it up a bit. She loved it also, and it might just be coming to a fiber artist in one form or another.

I made this first rough draft of a tree, if she pursues it, she will do a lot better.

Maria’s connection with the people who follow her is a wonderful thing to see.

I fell in love with this button tree, it was so full of character and life. I’d be happy to buy it if no one else does. You never know what Maria will or will not do, but I wanted to capture the button tree while it lives. She does love trees and I imagine she can do something with it that I can’t do.

  1. What wonderful buttons! Unlike any in my collection. Still have my mother’s button tin. I sat on the floor for hours as a child playing with her buttons. Beautiful tree Jon

    1. Me too! I still have my mother s sewing tin with buttons. I just could not resist these wooden buttons… the colors are beautiful. I also knew Maria would be able to bring them to life in some way. Thank you Jon?
