Chuck It Ball, Zinnia’s Passion

by Jon Katz

Of all things, Zinnia loves her Chuck-It ball, a durable orange ball that can be thrown with a launcher long distances. It’s easy on the legs and arms of the tosser.

Zinnia goes after this ball once or twice every day, I throw it until her tongue is hanging almost down to the ground. So far, she has never stopped voluntarily.

I’ve found this to be a handy system for active dogs like Zinnia. It doesn’t wear me out a bit.

When I hear her wheezing and see her dropping the ball to catch a breath, I stop. Her focus and stamina always surprise me. In the summer, I’ll make the exercise a lot shorter.

  1. My dog and I are huge fans of the thrower gadget. I’m not very good at throwing a ball, but using a thrower gives me some distance. Yes, indeed. For active dogs like Zinnia and my Airedale, Zada, this is definitely an arm saver.

  2. John, I finished the second book of yours about Orion, “A Great Dog”. I have just adopted a little dog, only had him for a month. We are doing well he and I. He is about 7 years old, had a bit of training, he walks well on leash, sleeps on the bed at night but spaced out, doesn’t seem to want to be wrapped around me (a good thing). He does go haywire at doorbells, small children, UPS, FEDX, etc. We’re working on that…lol

I feel blessed to have found a dog who seems a good match for me and who does not seem to have been damaged in his past life. I find myself after reading your book, wishing I could feel as deeply as you do about a dog. Maybe with time. Thank you for writing your books, I have five more from the library.

  3. I have a 7 yo Pomeranian that also loves the chuck-it. He’ll fetch until I tire out. My neighbors find our game comical.
