Donut Friday At Moise’s Farm, All Day Long

by Jon Katz

Donut Friday starts early at the Miller Farm; donut lovers show up early, eager for the warmest ones. Barbara and the girls bake for much of the day; they are always ferrying fresh and warm donuts down to the shed.

Donut Friday is only a few weeks old, but it is fast becoming a much-loved local institution. When I went there this morning to take photos of the donuts, cars were already pulling over and lining up for the donuts.

The smell in the kitchen would have melted the hardest heart.

Barbara and her daughters only make three kinds of donuts right now, but they consider some with fillings later on. The first is the plain and cinnamon donuts:

The glazed donuts below fly out of the shed. The donut holes aren’t in the photograph; you can see them at the bottom.

I’m not a donut eater myself, but people in town are excited about it. I think Donut Friday will be big; I think it already is.

Sorry for out-of-towners who read my blog and can’t get to eat these very appetizing donuts. To people in the area, the farm is located on  Route 22, just below Lauderdale Lake’s Public Park, about 4.5 miles north of Cambridge.

There’s a wooden shed out front announcing the sale of “Baked Goods” and, on Friday, “Donuts.” (They do sell donuts all week.)

The Amish never promote themselves, pay for ads or market themselves; it is considered arrogant in their culture. It’s considered essential in mine, so I’ll do this bit of marketing on their behalf.

Every Friday – Donut Day at Mosie and Barbara’s Miller Farm.

They work for profits but are forbidden from charging excessive amounts of money, even for popular things.

Each six-donut box is $6.

  1. Oh Jon, maybe down the road your new pal would consider shipping? If not, I’m taking a ride!! I’m from western mass, is it far??

    1. I don’t see shipping donuts in my future, but I’ll suggest to them, perhaps they would be willing to do it…they’d have to get there fast too..I doubt they would do it..

  2. I wanted to reach through my iPad and have one of those glazed donuts with my coffee! They look delicious ?

  3. Yum! The doughnuts look so good it would be worth the 6 hrs. and 54 mins. drive to Cambridge! 🙂
