Maria Meets Moise’s Big Draft Horses. They Had A Lovely Talk

by Jon Katz

Maria and I stopped over at the Miller’s farm late this afternoon to drop something off, and Moise was there, preparing to take a car down to the hardware store. He was working all day to build skills for the concrete walls in his barn.

He looked tired, but he wasn’t done working.

He said he had to go into town, but he invited me to go to the barn-raising site and see the work he had done. I did, and I’ll be showing photos and writing about it in the morning.

I was walking around taking some photos, and I saw Maria walk over to the two big draft horses Moise uses to plow and haul heavy things.

She leaned over and started a conversation with her; the nearest horse leaned over and seemed to be listening. The other worse watched closely.

She leaned over like that for what seemed a long time to me; it was probably just a few minutes. There is no animal Maria doesn’t talk to.

Earlier in the day, we were in Petco’s when someone came in with a four-foot python around their neck, it was a pet.

Maria came right over, and she touched it and spoke with it. They just seem to know.

I was grateful for this picture.

  1. Maria, every time we give thought or time or whenever we have words with creatures , we take down walls between the visible and invisible worlds. And build for ourselves means to connect heart to heart. There will be a time when there will be communication. It may be a simple picture transferred to let you know there is understanding. It will be with great joy. It has been your effort. You will know what you need to know. veronica
