Merry Christmas From All Of Us At Bedlam Farm. A Prayer And A Place To Descend Into Silence

by Jon Katz

“Let there be a place somewhere in which you can breathe naturally, quietly, and not have to take your breath in continuous short gasps. A place where your mind can be idle, and forget its concerns, descend into silence, and worship in secret. There can be no contemplation where there is no secret.”

-Thomas Merton, The Book Of Hours.

Maria and I are heading to Vermont to spend Christmas Eve together and peacefully in a beautiful old inn where we had our honeymoon. We will be back Saturday morning. We wish all of you, without whom we could not do our work and make our art, a meaningful and peaceful Christmas.

Tomorrow afternoon, we will visit the Mansion and spend some time with the residents who have no family or visitors.  It’s a one-night stay, but we’re bringing headphones, books, and plans for our own silent hour together.

Love to you all.
